John Carter of Mars Trailer

I could never get into the books (and oh how I've tried) but I could definitely get into this movie.

Directed by Andrew Stanton. Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo, Wall-E, and now this live action movie. I'm ready.

Via Scott at Rivets and Trees.

UPDATED
I forgot to say ... the music, oh the music! I am ready to buy that soundtrack now ...

  1. Sadly, the movie looks like it'll be nothing like the books.

  2. Sadly, I would replace the opening adverb in geeklady's comment with "hopefully."

But don't mind me. I made the fatal error of reading all ten of E.R. Burroughs' Mars books one after another. By the 3rd or 4th book, I was getting restive. By the 7th or 8th, I was getting peeved. By the 10th, I'd passed beyond the seven adjectival circles of Hell and was getting ready to rip my eyeballs out of their sockets to get the repetition to stop.

Sorry. I'm sorry. I know I've gone past the "wet blanket" stage and gone on to the "completely sopping thank you Mr. Hurricane" stage of book reviewing.
It's just that I want to warn people -- don't, please, try to read more than one of these books in a row. One is fine. If he'd only written one Mars book I'd be chipper and happy and camper.

  3. I read all the books in my junior high - high school years. Yes, they all have the same plot, only the names have been changed. But as a true geek once you realize that, you keep reading, just to see how ERB's imagination populates this world and what kinds of characters and critters he comes up with next.

I don't mind if movies want to tell a different story with the characters of literature, pulp or classic, if they have something to say. I do mind when they change the character's origins, motives, personality and so on (anyone see Solomon Kane or Jonah Hex?.)

I am cautiously optimistic, I hope it turns out as good as it looks.
